"There comes a time when everyone has to make a change in their life.Wars and an Islamic Revolution happened in Iran. When Marjane Satrapi wrote a graphic novel named Persepoils where she told her life story in Iran Revolution. Many invaders killed and were losing home’s into this strong culture, and in some ways they became Iranians themselves. Marjane parents thought it was to dangerous for her to stay in Iran because many daily incidents played a part in political issue in Iran.It difficult for her to stay in Iran.
Marjane’s personal life was affected by the war for example Marjane was getting in trouble in Iran, one day as she was walking down the street to go buy her music tapes. She was wearing improperly clothing that shouldn’t be wearied in Iran by a Muslim women. After she brought her tapes the Guardians of the Revolution stopped her .They were the women that agree to wear the veil and their jobs was to keep Muslim women in check, and arrest women who dressed improperly and whoever wear their veils the wrong way. Marjane was called a little whore because she was wearing punks sneakers, a jacket and she had on a Michael Jackson pin. One of the Branch Women told Marjane to hand over the pin, but Marjane stood up and told the lady no without know headaition. The Branch Women didn’t have nothing better else to do so they just made people upset and try to arrest women that wasn’t dressed like them. The Branch Women didn’t like the fact that all women didn’t want to wear the veil like the another Muslim that why women were being disrespected by another women. In a society like that all the Muslim women should of struck together.
Another daily incident that played a role in Satrapis migration was the violence in Iran.One afternoon Satrapis was buying some clothing at a store wit her friend were she heard a "BOOM". The clerk at the store told Marjane that a missile just exploded in the Tavanir neighborhood. Marjane run home because her building and the Baralery’s house where at the end of the street.She didn’t know if her family had got hurt in the house. When she finally got to her house there was cops blocking the way to her house but they was kind to let her though because she lived there. When Satrapis got though she seen her mother and asked her was the family safe and her mother replied yes. Marjane asked was the Baralevy okay, her mother told her " It’s a Saturday you know they are never home on a Saturday’s. When Marjane and her mother walked pass the Baralevy house had been destroyed, and Mrjane was desecrated of the trash. She saw her friend Neda’s bracelet and she seen it was still attached to Neda’s arm. That’s so sad when you see that your friend died because of a bomb that hit and her friend was only 14 years old. Satapis and her mother realize that life in Iran was ending for people early and their where to much danger.
Further more, political issue influenced the Satrapi family in deciding that Marjane should move. Muslim girls In Iran faced assault if they went against the government.When a girl Niloufar was living with Marjane father friend Khosro. She lived with him because her brother was his messenger boy. The government are looking all over for her because she’s a communist.
Like Niloufars, Marjane was very young and curios about life. Marjane had got a called home from her principal and told off her religion teacher. Her mother was upset with her because she didn’t want her daughter end up like Niloufar. Her mother had tell Marjane that it’s against the law to kill a virgin so a guardian of the Revolution marries the girl and takes girls virginity before executing the girl.
Marjane didn’t believe her mother so her father had to tell her that she was right and it’s a traditionally when a girl gets married the husband is supposed to pay for her dowry. If the girl die, the husband has to give the dowry to her family. That’s what happened with Niloufar after he was executed to make sure her awful fate was understood, they sent 500 Tumans to her parents. Marjane mother was scared because she just didn’t want Marjane to go throw something like that. Marjane was so disappointed that her parents didn’t want to go to Austria and they wasn’t going with her.
Living in Iran was very difficult, because citizens get hurt and there were many wars and dangerous killing happening in Iran. Marjane made this book to let her readers know that Iran was rich but dangerous place to live . Satrapi family didn’t want to take a risk of Marjane being in danger, that’s why her parents made her leave and go to Austria.
